Things I do when I’m not doing other Things

Soooooo… this happened. I was there. It was great.

In case you are unfamiliar with the band in the above image, they are Dir En Grey, a Japanese metal band that’s been around since 1997, and are currently here in North America for their 2013 “Ghoul” Tour.

They were here in Houston on Monday, Nov. 4th and I went to check them out.

So, I’ve basically wanted to see this band for the past 10 years or so but have never gotten a chance until now. Not only that, but they were playing at Scout Bar, which was a pretty small place considering, so it was great to be that much closer to the band.

As far as live performances go, this is by far one of the best live bands I have ever seen, and Kyo-sama’s voice hit every note with with precision, which was surprising given how dynamic and quickly it changes. Between that, the bands showmanship, and a sliver of theatrics, the show was great.

The setlist was a good one:

  1. REIKETSU NARISEBA
  2. Unknown.Despair.Lost
  3. KARMA
    (2013 Ver.)
  4. RED SOIL
  5. DOZING GREEN
  6. Bottom of the death valley
    (2013 Ver.)
  7. INWARD SCREAM
  8. THE BLOSSOMING BEELZEBUB
  9. dead tree
  10. VINUSHKA
  11. RINKAKU
  12. -karasu-
    (2013 Ver.)
  13. DIFFERENT SENSE
  14. KASUMI
    (2013 Ver.)
  15. Encore:
  16. OBSCURE
    (2011 Ver.)
  17. THE FINAL
    (2013 Ver.)
  18. HAGESHISA TO, KONO MUNE NO NAKA DE KARAMITSUITA SHAKUNETSU NO YAMI

Below is a video of (most of) The Final. It was recorded on my phone with one hand so not the best quality but still.

So overall, great show. Props to their opening band, Dagoba, as well, they weren’t bad. (they are a French metal band).

And then other things! School is still crazy, life is still crazy. More on those things later in another post perhaps (or maybe not).

I’m about [probably] 1/3 of the way done with a new short story that I’ve been working on, so we’ll see that up here shortly. In the meantime I may post something else up.
